Originally from Port Macquarie, NSW Australia, Darren McIntyre is a graduate of The Australian Ballet School receiving his Advanced Diploma of Dance in 1999.
As a Guest Artist, he has appeared with Boca Ballet Theatre (FL), Brooklyn Ballet (NYC), Central Dance Company (Australia), Configurations (MA), Fugate/Bahiri Ballet NY (NYC), Hamilton College Dance Ensemble (NY), Les Ballet Grandiva (Australian Tour), Munson Williams Proctor Institute (NY), Olympic Ballet Theatre (WA), The Albany Berkshire Ballet (NY), The Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company (NY), The Ena Ballet (Japan), The Gold Coast Dancers Company (Australia), The Leatherstocking Ballet (NY), The Lexington Ballet (KY), The Minnesota Dance Theatre (MN), The Mohawk Valley Ballet (NY), The Montgomery Ballet (AL), The New American Youth Ballet (NYC), The New England Ballet Company (CT), The New Haven Ballet (CT), The Old Forge Ballet Company (NY), The Portland Ballet (ME), The Southern New Hampshire Dance Theatre (NH), The Springfield Ballet Company (IL), & The Stamford Ballet (CT), Eryc Taylor Dance (NYC), among others.
Some of Darren’s favorite roles to date include portraying the principal roles in “Romeo & Juliet”, “Swan Lake”, ”Giselle”, "The Sleeping Beauty", "The Nutcracker", "Paquita", a Stepsister in "Cinderella", “Valse Fantasie” by George Balanchine, "Aubade" by Michael Pink, ”Orange” by Stanton Welch & “Die Bakchen” by James Sutherland.
Darren has danced as a special guest performer at several international dance festivals in Italy, Greece, Australia & Japan and has been invited to represent Milwaukee Ballet at The 4th International Ballet Festival of Colombia in South America in 2010.
Mr. McIntyre’s repertory includes lead roles in: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Carmina Burana, Chopinana, Cinderella, Coppelia, Don Quixote, Dracula, Giselle, La Belle Époque, Le Corsaire, Les Sylphides, Paquita, Raymonda, Romeo & Juliet, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, The Red Shoes, The Sleeping Beauty, The Snow Queen, Carmen, Karien The Amazon, The Unicorn-The Gorgon & The Manticore, Balanchine’s “Valse Fantasie”, Stephen Mill’s “Hamlet”, DeeAna Hiett’s “Givin Up”, Christopher Fleming’s “Play Ball”, Edwaard Liang’s “Mixed Nuts”, Ellen Sinopoli’s “Winged” & “Coming and Going”, Luis Dominguez’s “Wild Things”, Peter Anastos's "The Gilded Bat", Victor Trevino’s “Minkus Gala”, Michael Pink’s “Aubade”, Antony Tudor’s “Offenbach in the Underworld”, Jessica Lang’s “"Beatus Vir", Nelly Van Bommel’s “Gelem Gelem", Meredith Rainey's "One Button Down", Cameron McMillian's "ESO", Mark Godden's "Wonder Wild" & Stanton Welch’s “Orange”. The roles of: Pentheus in James Sutherland’s “Die Bakchen”, Light in Mary Giannone’s “Light on The Water”, Ivan in Chiara Ajkun’s “We, Ivan the Terrible” and W.A. Mozart in Chiara Ajkun's “Mozart, Epilogue of the Genius”, were created on Darren. He has also performed in The Musicals “Sweet Charity”, “Moulin Rouge”, “A Night of Soul” & “Die Maske in Blau”.
Darren was the recipient of several scholarships including The Dame Peggy Van Praagh Award for Choreography, The Sir Robert Helpmann Bursary & The Young Australian of The Year Arts Award.
Mr. McIntyre is a columnist with DANCEtrain Magazine & is the founder and artistic director of The Marianne McIntyre Memorial International Ballet Scholarship, a ballet festival held annually in memory of his Mother, fostering young dancer’s education through grants to study within The USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Darren choreographed and premiered his own original ballet, “What May Come”, at The Australian Ballet Centre (1999), and in collaboration with The Anti-Cancer Council of Australia raised valuable funds towards cancer research and awareness. In 2009-2010 Darren will be working with The American Cancer Society in association with Milwaukee Ballet on several fundraising events in Wisconsin, including a Benefit Performance to be held in 2010 called "The Power of The Arts".
Darren was featured in The "Creative Diaspora Exhibition" in association with The Australian Consulate in New York City, USA, in the Film "Unseen Yet Felt", and in the book "Love it and Leave it Australia's Creative Diaspora" all by Nathalie Latham.
He was special Guest Artist in The Australian Focus Magazine & in several editions of DANCEtrain Magazine.
Mr. McIntyre founder and is Artistic Advisor of DManagement, a presenting agency established to promote some of the worlds finest artists to the performing arts industry, worldwide.
Mr. McIntyre presently travels the globe as a guest performer, teacher (in Ballet, Musical Theatre and other dance forms), choreographer & adjudicator.
